Malaysian non-Muslims Ask, Will We Ever Belong?

An article in The Malaysian Insider, A ‘browning’ of Islam in America? — C.M. Naim referred to another article in the New York Times American Muslims Ask, Will We Ever Belong? which in turned inspired this post - Will we (non-Malays and non-Muslims Malaysians) ever belong?

At a talk by Haris Ibrahim at Church of Divine Mercy, What does it mean to be a Malaysian, the audience were asked a question that goes something like this: "Would you accept being second class citizen?"

There were various responses and one of them was "for a limited period yes but not forever" which promted Haris to ask why?

Well here is the answer. Malaya and subsequently Malaysia a few decades ago had a population which had a large majority Malays (and orang asli and then Sarawak natives) which were poor and not well represented in the middle class and the professional classes.

A country with a large section of population in poverty struggling hard just to survive will not be a stable community and any reasonable person would support some kind of affirmative action to lift them up. But is such efforts morphed into "ketuanan Melayu" or Malay Supremacy plus end up extrapolated to infinity (forever), which would willingly accept for it would extend into their descendents right down till eternity.

So the question, will we the non-Malays and non-Muslim ever belong?

Under UMNO/Perkosa the nons WILL NEVER be accepted as a part of Malaysia. Study Singapore's exit from Malaysia and you will see how the ultra Malays led by people like Syed Hamid Albar's father and Mahathir was willing to take the risk of losing a prime chunk of Malaysian land because they could not come to a political compromise with LKY. The nons in Malaysia have only one way to defeat UMNO/Perkosa. Until the nons start voting as a bloc for the opposition UMNO will never take the call the treat the nons as Malaysians seriously. UMNO/Perkosa will threaten us with bloody murder and riots and that is indeed scary but do you as a non have any other choice but to fight their racist oppression if you truly believe Malaysia is your country and you intend to be here for good. The reality is UMNO/Perkosa controls the police, armed forces and the paramilitary such as the Territorial Army and if UMNO/Perkosa wishes to use these armed instruments of the government against the nons there is really not much we can do about it. However, there is also such a thing as passive resistance. Firstly, vote opposition so as to put pressure on these racist devils. Secondly, if at all possible ensure that all discretionary income in your expenditure do not support UMNO/Perkosa companies and their cronies. Most of all never contribute to the gambling revenue of UMNO/Perkosa. Surprised? The gambling operators are the biggest contributors to UMNO's coffers. UMNO uses this money to whack us on the head come every election. Why do you think Najib took a huge political risk by issuing the sport gambling licence to Vincent Tan? UMNO wants a piece of the sport gambling scene which is dominated by the illegal syndicate. The licence is the replacement for Oil Blocks L and M which AAB ‘gave’ to Brunei. Do you know these two blocks of oil are coming on stream this year and the two wells will enable Brunei to DOUBLE their daily oil production?

Gambling is always bad but if you really have to place a bet there are ‘alternatives’ to the so-called legal gambling outlets such as TOTO and Genting Casino. Bear in mind that all the people involved in the ‘alternatives’ are self-employed. These people also contribute to schools and welfare programs for the nons and they do not wave weapons in your face in the name of their race and religion. Why whack yourself on the head by giving money to these greedy, racist people? We cannot force UMNO/Perkosa to accept the nons as an integral part of Malaysia but we can keep voting opposition even if they were to win all the subsequent General Elections by making the possibility of them losing power clear and present. Finally, DO NOT get involved in the stock market. How many people do you know of actually make money in the stock market and just like the ‘legal’ gambling outlets the stock market is just another casino to suck money from the non so as to enable UMNO/Perkosa to keep whacking us on the head and stay in power.

NEVER fight UMNO/Perkosa with racism or physical force for it furthers their racist agenda to portray themselves as ‘Ketuanan’ heroes and reinforces the non bogeyman image planted by them in the minds of many Malays. Let's give UMNO/Perkosa hell at the polls and take away the gambling/stock market revenue which they use to keep themselves in power
