Alienation of tens of thousands of hectares of commercial land and forestry concessions to children and relatives of Barisan National leaders and Ministers worth tens of billions of Ringgits.
Travel around Malaysia and see for yourself how many white elephants like majestic arches, roads paved with fanciful bricks, designer lamp posts, clock towers, Municipal buildings that look like Istanas, extravagant places of worships, refurbishment of residences of VIP’s, abandoned or under-utilized government sports complexes and buildings etc etc. The combined costs of all these will easily amount to the hundreds of billions of Ringgits.
Since 1997, Petronas has handed out a staggering 30 Billion Ringgit in natural gas subsides to IPPs who are already making massive profits. In addition there were much wastages and forward trading of Petronas oil in the 1990’s based on the low price of oil then. The accounts of Petronas are for the eyes of the Prime Minster only we have absolutely no idea of the amount!

THE ATTACKS ON MALAYSIA TODAY
Posted by admin
Monday, 28 September 2009 16:21

The MCMC has in the past failed to silence Malaysia Today officially through blocking it in August 2008. Now, with even more revelations of various scandals of the government exposed through this site, we can't help but suspect that there is a more significant force, a hidden hand at play aimed at bringing down Malaysia Today.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

First of all, I have received tons of happy birthday messages via SMS, Facebook, e-mails and postings on this site. Initially, I tried to reply to all these messages one by one but as the messages flooded in I found it impossible to reply to each and every message individually. Therefore, I would like to say thank you and at the same time apologise to all those I was not able to personally reply to.

Now, you may have noticed that of late Malaysia Today has been ‘off the air’ almost every day, sometimes for a stretch of many hours. This has been going on for more than a week. The man leading our technical team thought that maybe we should inform our readers what is happening so that you can be kept abreast of the developments. Rest assured we are doing everything we can to solve this problem.

Nevertheless, there is just so much we can do. Money, of course, is one issue that we have to address, as what would be required does cost us quite a sum. Money aside, though, if they choose to continue the attacks, even money can’t solve the problem. We just have to pick ourselves up and start all over again whenever we are hit and bear the disruptions to the site with a stiff upper lip.

Anyway, let our technical team explain what is the problem we have been facing.

What happened to Malaysia Today

By Malaysia Today’s technical team

With so much confusion and speculation making its rounds about what is happening to Malaysia Today over more than a week, we are compelled to offer our explanation so that the record can be set straight. Only limited technical details will be mentioned to allow you to appreciate the scale of challenge the site is facing.

You may now be aware that the site has been up and down since Friday, 17 September 2009. This was due to malicious activities by those behind the effort to cripple Malaysia Today. This is just one of the many rounds of cyber-attacks that we at Malaysia Today have had to face for more than a year now.

Coincidentally, this latest round of attacks started immediately after RPK’s explosive expose two weeks ago on Tuesday regarding the Malaysian Cabinet's knowledge and 'approval' of the PKFZ scandal long before it became public knowledge. Suspicious activities against the site happened as early as Wednesday, but the first damage was done in the afternoon of Thursday, which brought the site down.

The site was quickly recovered and by 6.00pm we were up and running again although with some loss of data. The attack revolved around the long-time problem faced by the site - a rather old version of Joomla content management system and the use of third-party components.

Lack of resources (financial, manpower, etc.) has always been a challenge faced by Malaysia Today, which affected the maintenance and operations of the site. During the recovery process, we locked down the site to reduce the danger of further compromises.

The next wave of attacks came the following day on Friday. This time it was in a wave of DDoS traffic crippling one of our nodes at Singapore. The Singapore node operates with about 30Mbps of bandwidth, a luxury by Malaysian standards but far short if we need to match any serious DDoS attacks. The node was basically choked with illegitimate traffic. Typical of DDoS network attacks, the origin of the attacks is difficult to pinpoint and sometimes pointless as the attack agents/zombies are likely compromised systems themselves.

We then activated our resources at our US node to recover the site. The process required optimisation on the site to cope with demand. (The demand on the site seemed much higher, possibly due to the interest on the PKFZ expose.) Hence the intermittent site outage, due to either overloading or optimisation process.

Being a service provider of a larger scale and sophistication, the US node has a higher capability of sustaining the attacks. Still, the attacks persisted on a daily basis and we tried deflecting them as far as we could. The DDoS traffic we suffered ranged from 227Mbps to 835Mbps, a mammoth scale for anyone familiar with maintaining Internet sites. The attacker does not appear interested in defacing the website, typical of self-styled college hackers. He/she just deleted articles published on Malaysia Today, literally one by one, with the single-minded aim of erasing all the explosive stuff on the site.

Further complicating the trace of attacks is the use of free proxy servers, on random basis, by the attackers. This is an irony, as we have been advising our users to use such proxy servers to overcome any potential content filtering by the government.

All the malicious activities and behaviours bear the hallmark of professional, for-hire hackers. These are certainly no amateurs, judging from the persistence and frequency of the attacks, with the main objective of making the content of Malaysia Today inaccessible to the public.

We believe that there is NO explicit blocking of the site by the various Malaysian ISPs. The inconsistent and intermittent accessibility of the site in the past many days are the result of the situation described above, although we must caution that it is almost impossible to detect any clandestine censorship.

The MCMC has in the past failed to silence Malaysia Today officially through blocking it in August 2008. Now, with even more revelations of various scandals of the government exposed through this site, we can't help but suspect that there is a more significant force, a hidden hand at play aimed at bringing down Malaysia Today.

Can UMNO reform itself? I think no

I like a comment made by Walla in Sakmongkol's "The Future of UMNO-2

A: 'Interesting essay, no?'

B: 'Generic value, too. And as interesting as wenger's regression analysis!

But i have a problem with it, A.'

A: 'And that be?'

B: 'It's like Umno now trying to do what Pakatan had already done.

Look back. When Pakatan first started, it was just a motley lot cutting their teeth on the grindstone of modus vivendi. If anything, that's political coopetition. But Pakatan worked whereas BN didn't during GE12 because Umno and its cohorts chose not to see the seismic change in the fundamental sentiment of the voters which caused them to vote across racial and religious lines. Now Pakatan has moved ahead with things that reinforce even more the original sentiment, for example, malays running DAP branches, that reflect a refreshingly plural approach to politics.

Meanwhile BN has created its own contradictions. It is race-based but it wants to create a 1malaysia. Its individuals can be friendly but its governmental policies have damned entire communities. And it can talk about people first while scheming to take their rights at all costs using all the institutions of state under its control.'

A: 'Hey, i take exception to the last statement. Umno is not like that.'

B: 'Really? Then please explain to me why it is not alright for the rakyat to know as a matter of their basic right that the cabinet already knew about PKFZ's cost escalations. Instead of admitting guilt and cover-up, what you have is a feeble attempt at deflection. Please, the rakyat know all about double-standards, namely when caught, pin fault on the messengers. That sort of low IQ thing is almost blase these days.'

A: 'Do you see it getting worse, B?'

B: 'Of course. Especially when incumbents can define what is national security to their own political whims. Especially when there are at least five sets of standards in everything - take your time to think out the levels. Especially when a government can gerrymander constituencies and move entire army camps for persuaded postal voting.'

A: 'But BN didn't win in all postal votings before, B.'

B: 'Maybe it wants to use them selectively for strategic objectives. It's like Churchill hiding the fact that the british had cracked the german enigma code by deliberating not sounding the alarm to one of his cities which was targeted for luftwaffe bombing.'

Hassan Ali is a double headed snake

Well you know, this Hassan Ali who is supposed to be a PAS Commissioner and in Pakatan Rakyat but behave more like an UMNO warlord, is becoming more and more like a double-headed snake. You know, the kind that says one thing to one party and another thing to another.

Hassan Ali criticised Selcat for behaving like a bully towards District Officers and posed as defending District Officers against Selcat.

However, listen to Teng Chang Kim: "Unknown to them, Hassan Ali had been pushing for all senior civil servants — including DO’s, heads of local authorities, the state secretary and state legal advisor — to be replaced during PR state meetings."

Wish he quickly go join the corrupt UMNO

PKFZ Cabinet Paper - What the Cabinet hid from the Malaysian public

RPK posted this - What the Cabinet hid from the Malaysian public over at his blog Malaysia Today and if that is not accessible, go to Malaysia Today's mirror site.

Mirror site for Malaysia Today

Raja Petra Kamaruddin's blog Malaysia Today which URL is mt.m2day.org/2008/ was attacked and became unavailable after RPK posted an expose of PKFZ cabinet documents.

Thankfully, Malaysia Today is accessible again, but just in case, here is Malaysia Today's mirror site which have the URL www.freeanonymizer.co.uk/anonurl.php?r=on&u=http://mt.m2day.org//2008/.

Please copy and save the link in a safe place in case the powers give problems again. I think I will put the links in my sidebar.

Cakap cakap - bagaimana sekarang

Talk talk, what now? (by HUSSEIN ABDUL HAMID

Kita harus terus terang terhadap sesuatu perkara. Kenapa kita hendak UMNO dibuang?

Kamu adakah orang-orang untuk menenuhi jawatan-jawatan it?

Teoh Beng Hock sedang menjadi 'blip on the horizon'. Kugan hampir dilupakan.

Tolong beritahulah saya.

semi value eats crow

UALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 — Just a week after his grandstanding against Umno interference in his party affairs, MIC president Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu was forced today to announce that he will personally apologise to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the “slipper garland” insult.

Sorry press publish too fast. Will write about what I wanted to post later. If you cannot wait, surf over to Malaysian Insider to read what prompted me to want to write this post.

Spam alert - Mid Valley Megamall experience

To: Subject: Fw: : Mid Valley Megamall Dangerous Exprience

Reminder…

LET THIS TRUE STORY SERVE AS A WARNING

To the men : warn your loved ones!
To the women : remember this!

About a month ago there was a woman standing by the Mega Mall entrance (Mid-Valley Megamall location map) passing out flyers to all the women going in. The woman had written the
flyer herself to tell about an experience she had, so that she might warn
other women.

The previous day, this woman had finished shopping, went out to her car
and discovered that she had a flat. She got the jack out of the trunk and
began to change the flat. A nice man dressed in business suit and carrying
a briefcase walked up to her and said,

' I notice you ' re changing a flat tire. Would you like me to take care
of it for you? '

The woman was grateful for his offer and accepted his help. They chatted
amiably while the man changed the flat, and then put the flat tire and the
jack in the trunk, shut it and dusted his hands off.

The woman thanked him profusely, and as she was about to get in her car,
the man told her that he left his car around on the other side of the
mall, and asked if she would mind giving him a lift to his car. She was a
little surprised and asked him why his car was on the other side. He
explained that he had met an old friend in the mall whom he hadn ' t seen
for some time and they had a bite to eat and visited for a while; he got
turned around in the mall and left through the wrong exit, and now he was
running late and his car was clear around on the other side of the mall.

The woman hated to tell him ' no ' because he had just rescued her from
having to change her flat tire all by herself, but she felt uneasy. Then
she remembered seeing the man put his briefcase in her trunk before
shutting it and before he asked her for the ride to his car.

She told him that she ' d be happy to drive him to his car, but she just
remembered one last thing she needed to buy. She said she would only be a
few minutes; he could sit down in her car and wait for her; she would be
as quick as she could be. She hurried into the mall, and told a security
guard
what had happened; the guard came out to her car with her, but the
man had left.

They opened the trunk, took out his locked briefcase and took it down to
the police station. The police opened it (ostensibly to look for ID so
they could return it to the man). What they found was rope, duct tape and
knives.

When the police checked her ' flat ' tire, there was nothing wrong with
it; the air had simply been let out. It was obvious what the man ' s
motive was, and obvious that he had carefully thought it out in advance.

The woman was blessed to have escaped harm. How much worse it would have
been had she waited in the car while the man fixed the tire, or if she had
a baby strapped into a car seat. Or if she ' d gone against her judgment
and given him a lift. I ' d like you to forward this to all the women you
know..

It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle. I
was going to send this to the ladies only; but guys, if you love your
mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc., you may want to pass it on to
them as well.

Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the
world we live in has a lot of crazies in it....better safe than sorry.

PLEASE BE SAFE AND NOT SORRY!

JUST A WARNING TO ALWAYS BE ALERT AND USE YOUR HEAD!!!

Pass this along to every woman you meet. Never let your guard down.

Idiotic speech by Hishammuddin Hussein: bloody cow head incident

Listen to this idiot Home Minister (kerismuddin or Hishammudin) who despite being a lawyer do not know the law and who would condone incitement and threat of violence an bloodshed. I wonder what his grandfather Onn Jaafar would say at such idiotic speech.

Video courtesy of Malaysiakini (Hisham: Don't blame cow-head protestors):
