Amanah, PAS, Hadi and UMNO BN (and divorcing wives)

The progressive members of PAS left PAS and formed Amanah to continue cooperation with DAP and PKR. Why? Because cooperation of DAP and PKR become very problematic recent months especially with Abdul Hadi Awang leading PAS.

And some PAS members had been screaming for those who left PAS to form Amanah to resign their elected offices plus divorce their wives. But are their demands justified?

My opinions. PAS contested in past elections against UMNO BN in cooperation with DAP and PKR as Pakatan Rakyat plus the Common Policies Platform. This cooperation and Common Policies did not provide for Hudud. And certainly not one component party (PAS) leaving Pakatan Rakyat to form a Selangor State Government with the tainted UMNO BN.

And now Husam Musa, the former PAS Vice President, have come out to confirm what many already have accepted as fact that Hadi had conspired to leave Pakatan Rakyat to form Selangor State Government with UMNO BN with cooperation from a few PKR ADUNs after the 2013 elections (correction, it seemed it was during the Selangor Mentri Besar crisis when PAS was in loggerhead with DAP and PKR about removing Khalid as Mentri Besar).

That is clear cut betrayal of DAP, PKR, Pakatan Rakyat and especially those who voted for the opposition in the 2013 elections. So now with you tell me, with this, who should resign from their elected offices and divorce their wives?

We had misgivings regarding Azmin Ali as Selangor Mentri Besar (Chief Minister) before but it looks like our misgivings are unfounded for Azmin is proving to be quite a competent Mentri Besar. We have The Malay Mail Online reporting that Azmin will expand Selangor's public transport rather than build more highways. This is exactly what the thinking public wants rather than more tolled highways like what the Federal Government had been doing and is proposing to build even more tolled highways.

Good for you Azmin.

Selangor MB crisis, Hadi Awang betrayal of PR

It was reported in The Malaysian Insider (Hadi admits offering Azmin MB post in unity government with Umno) that Hadi Awang of PAS had offered Azmin of PKR the Mentri Besar post by joining PAS, UMNO and a few PKR turncoats to form a unity state government for Selangor.

This is betrayal of the highest order by Hadi Awang. However, it was rejected by Azmin and the other PAS Selangor State Assemblymen if I read the article correctly. Just how dependable is PAS as a partner of Pakatan Rakyat? Can the voters trust Hadi Awang again? And PAS? I believe many others in PAS do not agree with cooperating with UMNO. Let's see how the development unfolds.

Protest Syabas water rationing threat - demonstration at Wisma Rozali

Syabas has threatened to impose water rationing in Selangor but many suspect that it is a ploy to create an artificial water crisis to pressure the Selangor State Government to proceed with what many claimed is an unneccesary Langat 2 water treatment plant plus to cause Selangor voters to be angry with the Pakatan state government and thus vote BN in the coming 13th General Election.

If the so-called water crisis is false, then all Selangor residents should support the Selangor state government to take over the water distribution and water treatment from Syabas and sack its CEO, Rozali Ismail, who is drawing an extravant RM5 million salary.

If there really is a treated water crisis (there is an abundance of raw water), then it means Syabas is inefficient and thus also deserve to be taken over by SSG (Selangor State Government). Either way, the efforts of the SSG to take over Syabas is justified and deserve support.

Selangor made it possible to report dubious voters in electoral roll

Malaysians need to pay RM50 in order to report a single voter to the EC (Election Commission). This will make it very taxing on the wallet for those individuals or groups to report a long list of dubious voters, and there are reports of very numerous dubious voters.

Batang Kali constituency experienced a 40% increase in voters in the electoral roll. Even setting aside your distrust of EC and UMNO/BN, can you believe that it is via genuine registration of genuine and not phantom voters?

The Selangor government will launch a "Selangorku Bersih" programme involving state civil servants and village heads to ensure that the electoral roll in the state is clean and in order.
Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim told the media after a meeting with the Election Commission that the programme would be a "measure from the state to help EC to clean up its electoral roll in Selangor".
Khalid said the state would use funds for this from the RM5 million grant set aside under the Geran Selangorku scheme to enable any individual or party to raise objections on dubious voters in the electoral roll.
Khalid, Selangor assembly speaker Teng Chang Khim and a delegation of Selangor exco members were at the EC headquarters in Putrajaya today for a briefing by the commission and to discuss issues pertaining to the movement of voters' polling stations without their knowledge.

Pakatan Rakyat had claimed that as of December 2011, there has been a sudden rise in the number of voters in the state, amounting to about half a million individuals or 35 percent of Selangor voters.
Coalition supremo Anwar Ibrahim had said Selangor will not go for its state-level polls until the matter is resolved.
When asked about this today, Khalid said he did not raise the matter to the EC today because it is beyond EC’s jurisdiction to decide when the state is to hold an election.
Briefing reaffirms existence of voter spike
Meanwhile, Selangor senior exco member Teresa Kok said that the EC’s briefing has reaffirmed the existence of a spike in dubious voters.
“In Batang Kali (state) constituency alone, there is a 40 percent spike of new voters since 2008, making the total number of voters to 39,928 now.
“But Batang Kali is a semi-rural constituency, where  did the voters come from?” she said.
She added that the neighbouring Kuala Kubu Baru state constituency had not recorded such a significant increase.
Besides Batang Kali, Bukit Lanjan has also recorded a 34 percent increase in voters, followed by Paya Jaras with 31 percent.
Asked about the claim that a large number of East Malaysians have registered themselves as voters in Selangor, Khalid said the EC has given the explanation that it is done according to procedure.
“We were told that eligible voters can register to vote in Selangor. The validity is determined upon application for registration,” he said.
Khalid said he tried to press for exact figures on  the matter, but was told it is being tabulated.
“The EC said the figures are still being tabulated because there is a surge of voters.
“It said that on March 30 alone, 5,000 people were registered to vote in Selangor,” he said.
On his own voting status, Khalid said he has applied to move his voting constituency from  Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur to Ijok, Selangor.
Khalid also dismissed the theory by an Umno blogger that being a KL voter would disqualify him from contesting a state seat if he fails to change his voting constituency, saying that the criteria examined is the address on the identity card.
When asked about the MCA’s accusations that Selangor deferment of its elections is a stunt to siphon its money to campaign activities elsewhere, Khalid declined to comment.
Exco member Halimah Ali, who was standing beside Khalid, then quickly went to his defence, quipping  that “even the selangor exco has found it hard to get a cent from the government”.

Civil Society and Selangorians to hold public rally to pressure Chief Secretary to declare Khusrin’s appointment null and void

THE Civil Society and Selangorians have come together to form the group Hormati Suara Rakyat Selangor (HSRS), which is strictly a rakyat initiated effort, to show their disappointment and anger over the appointment of Datuk Mohd Khusrin Munawi as the new Selangor state secretary.

The group, formed on January 11, 2011, will hold a public rally soon to pressure the Chief Secretary to the Barisan Nasional federal government, Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Haji Hassan, to declare Khusrin’s appointment null and void.

Information on the public rally and HSRS will be revealed at the press conference this Friday.

Is outgoing Selangor State Secretary a liar?

In the controversies over the appointment of Mohd Khusrin Munawi as the Selangor State Secretary which no one wants, the outgoing State Secretary Ramli Mahmud has come out to claim that the Selangor Menteri Besar had been informed which the MB and his aid Faekah denied.

Apparently Ramli had keep quiet about Khusrin even though he had attended 5 meetings - two state exco meetings, two state economic action council meetings and a function held to fete his retirement in March this year.

The real traitors by Hazlan Zakaria

When the current MB (Menteri Besar or Chief Minister) of Selangor Khalid Ibrahim reject UMNO/BN's plant Mohd Khusrin Munawi as the State Chief Secretary using the Selangor Sultan, you can expect those dunce from Perkasa and UMNO to scream derhaka (traitor). But who are the real traitors? Who dragged the royalties through the mud then amended the Constitution to remove their immunity and reduce their power other than UMNO and their underlings. Read what Hazlan Zakaria a scion of the Malay warriors of the Sultan of the past had to say about the real traitors:

If family legend is to be believed, I am descended on my father's side, from the great Malay warrior Panglima Nayan himself. My lineage is supposedly traceable to the warrior-general who once served the court of the Kedah sultans.

Though in the chequered past that colours all legends, family history also point to an early life of piracy, or more palatably referred to as the very honourable practice of 'privateering'.

Panglima Nayan apparently warred upon the 'enemies' of the state on the high seas, in order to prove his 'kahar', the Malay word for 'mettle' in the northern Kedah dialect, to the eyes of the sultan and his military advisers.

In the tradition of my great ancestor, my lineage on my father's side pride ourselves collectively as those who fulfilled the two criteria of the warrior-caste: Tillers of the land and military service.

My uncles, grand uncles and distant relations have had their names listed in the ranks of the police, special constables and military regiments.

My late father broke slightly from that tradition as he served not in the martial service but as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer (PTD) in the federal government, but still in that tradition of honoured service.

Most retired to the livelihood of agriculture and husbandry, in the traditions of warriors stretching from the legionnaires of ancient Rome to the Malay warriors of our beloved land.

My late father himself, after retiring from government service, bought two small fruit orchards that we would go over to as a family to tend on the weekends. One son in particular (hint, hint) had to pull barbed wire and hammer in wooden posts to build fencing.

It is only fitting that those who shed their life's blood defending the land would stand to benefit from the fruits of the earth.

'The right to question'

But other than the gifts of land, there is another right that all those who shed blood in service of the state and the sultans deserve.

The right to receive loyalty in return from those that they so loyally serve and the right to question unjust rule.

This is enshrined all the way to the early annals of Malay history in the part-historical part-mythical texts of Hikayat Sejarah Melayu, in particular the tales of the first Malay king Sang Sapurba and his prime minister Demang Lebar Daun.

There is a compact between the people and the King, a social contract. The king promises to look after the rights and well-being of the people as they surrender their loyalty and right of rule to the king. In addition the king also promises to listen to any legitimate grouses.

The agreement was compiled into the 'Persetiaan Demang Lebar Daun', our very own Magna Carta. But as opposed to a compact between a king and his nobles it is between the king and the people.

It is only in Tun Sri Lanang's Hikayat Hang Tuah that loyalty is considered blind, such that the great Malay admiral Tun Tuah saw no wrong in enticing and kidnapping foreign princesses, give up his love and kill his blood brother unquestionably in the name of his loyalty, if the tales are to be believed, to a very emotional and petulant sultan.

But Tun Sri Lanang probably balanced that with the addition of the character of Hang Jebat who personified the royally trod-upon justice for the rakyat.

Some say Tun Sri Lanang was commissioned by the British to write the tale as it is, to make the Malay people obey their sultans blindly, and by proxy become unquestioning servants of the British Queen and Empire, since the sultans themselves were coerced into 'listening' to the advice of the colonial office residents.

Some of these speculations, on the residents' part at least, is easily verifiable historical fact.

'Loyalty not one-sided'

But to return to Hikayat Sejarah Melayu, of particular import is the fact that the histories and myths took particular pains to mention that the loyalty prescribed is not one sided.

As related in the tale of the king's string of consorts and the 'disease' that they develop once consummating their marriage to the king.

It is only after the king promised to honour his obligations to the people in return for their loyalty that he was 'cured' of his lamentable fate, with the Demang himself surrendering his daughter to be the king's consort and surviving their first night without any afflictions, protected as it were by the compact between king and rakyat.

While some might contest my arguments as being based on myths and legends, it would do us all well to think that if the 'Hikayat Sejarah Melayu that our Malay rulers draw their legitimacy from is to be dismissed as myth and legends and figments of some writer's imagination... well need I say more?

As such, if there is anyone right now who reserves the right to comment on the royals and to defend or vilify them at all, and to receive the same loyalty in return for the rakyat's money poured into maintaining their royal lifestyles, if no longer life's blood, I claim that right as befits my blood, inheritance and monthly PCB tax payments deducted from my salary.

Members of a certain Malay-based party (UMNO) who grew fat on public-funded projects and helped a former premier, who is a Malay of Indian descent (Dr Mahathir), bind and gag the rulers from their rightful place in our constitutional monarchy, probably should not have that right.

On that same vein, the deputy premier (Anwar Ibrahim) who sat on that particular premier's right hand during his royal putsch, but now leads the opposition, probably should not have that right either.

A such it distresses me to hear NGOs sponsored by a particular Malay party lodging police reports saying that they are defending the honour of the royalty, despite being once a party to the dismantling of royal power.

It distresses me to see Malay rulers being dragged hand and foot into plots and means by which the ruling regime plots and schemes to rid opposition-led states of their rightfully-elected governments.

'The real enemy'

I am not sure if the royals do so willingly or are being strong-armed by the government's ability to call a royal before the courts, another of their 'innovative' and sneaky constitutional amendments, or sugared up by contracts of railway double trackings or water transfer tunnels.

But I do hope that the royals will remember not only their rakyat-granted privileges, but their responsibilities as well. If not to the amended constitution that a certain premier shredded, then to the spirit of the social accord of 'Persetiaan Demang Lebar Daun'.

Family legends teems with tales of our heritage, one of the more famous one is about the ancestral keris, or Malay dagger once belonging to Panglima Nayan.

It is said that the blade was bound to a spirit of the land whose mandate was to preserve the sovereignty of our soil.

The traditional weapon had to be tied to the central beam of the family home as Japanese troops or members of the local Kempeitai passed by, shaking in its sheath for the blood of the enemies of the land.

While the sacred weapon was long lost to the depths of an abandoned well after the Japanese came searching for weapons in local households, I somehow think that if it were present now, it would be shaking with fury at the real enemy that is seeking to use if not go against the Malay rulers.

This time not foreign but perhaps... domestic.

Briefing: SYABAS stealing billions of public money

How SYABAS is stealing billions of our money from under our noses

Here’s a basic simple write-up. If you can afford the time, do swing by a briefing:

In 1997, the Barisan Nasional state and federal governments began privatising the water industry in Selangor. Then Menteri Besar Muhammad Taib chose the treasurer from his Umno division, Tan Sri Rozali Ismail to be the main beneficiary of this privatisation exercise.

By 2010, the amounts of losses generated by leakage and corruption in the private water companies have now run into the hundreds of millions. Amongst the many questionable financial practices found in the private water companies are:

1. An audit report on Syabas showed more than 72% of contracts, worth RM 600 million in total, was awarded to companies chosen through direct negotiation not by open tender process. Also, RM 325 million was found to be ‘missing’ in discrepancies between Syabas’ public accounts and the records of contracts awarded from 2005 to 2007.

3. In June 2005, Syabas contravened the terms of their concession when they imported RM 375 million worth of pipes from an Indonesian company instead of sourcing them locally. The Indonesian company was owned by Tan Sri Rozali Ismail, the CEO of Syabas.

4. Tan Sri Rozali Ismail’s salary is RM 5.1 million a year or RM 425,000 a month.

5. The four water companies have a combined debt of RM 6.4 billion. The federal government has given Syabas a soft loan of RM 320 million. The total interest on this 20 year loan is RM 250 million, and Syabas will not be required to pay a single sen of this amount. Instead, this cost will be fully borne by Malaysian taxpayers.

In light of this appalling financial mismanagement, the Selangor state government has prevented Syabas from raising water tariffs by 37%, and is now endeavouring to reacquire all water concessions from the private water companies. Their goal is to eliminate the element ofprivatised profit and socialised losses, stop the corruption and leakage, and ensure quality delivery of water at affordable rates. This move requires public and support and pressure to succeed.

The Briefing Session is organised by the Selangor State Government. The objective of the event is to allow the Selangor State Government to provide a briefing and explanation on its position in regards to the restructuring of the water services industry in Selangor, which has taken more than two years and has not yet been resolved.

The water services industry in Selangor used to belong to the state government, but over the years was corporatised and eventually privatised to four water concession companies. The Federal Government recognised the problems privatisation of such a public utility would eventually cause, and in 2006 passed in Parliament the Water Services Industry Act (WSIA). The Act, together with several other national policies, set out to reverse the wrongs of the privatisation.

Selangor is the most complex of all the states in Malaysia, as it has the most number of private water companies. Matters are also complicated because of the different coalitions in the Federal and Selangor State Government respectively. This briefing is meant to clarify the Selangor State Government’s position on the matter and allow an avenue for discussion, questions and dialogue with those present. Hassan Ali is a double headed snake

Well you know, this Hassan Ali who is supposed to be a PAS Commissioner and in Pakatan Rakyat but behave more like an UMNO warlord, is becoming more and more like a double-headed snake. You know, the kind that says one thing to one party and another thing to another.

Hassan Ali criticised Selcat for behaving like a bully towards District Officers and posed as defending District Officers against Selcat.

However, listen to Teng Chang Kim: "Unknown to them, Hassan Ali had been pushing for all senior civil servants — including DO’s, heads of local authorities, the state secretary and state legal advisor — to be replaced during PR state meetings."

Teng Chang Khim to be Selangor state assembly speaker, the first non-Malay speaker

On Sunday, 20 April 2007, Menteri Besar of Selangor, Khalid Ibrahim made a historical announcement. He announced that Teng Chang Khim will be appointed the Selangor state assembly speaker at the next Tuesday 22 April 2008, making him the first non-Malay to hold the post.

Another histotorical event will be created by the appointment of the first woman speaker, PKR's Taman Medan state representative Haniza Takha, as the deputy speaker of the Selangor State Assembly.

On Tuesday 22 April 2008, all the Selangor state representatives would be sworn in and the first sitting of the state assembly will also take place on Tuesday.

However, Teng Chang Khim declined to comment on whether he is happy about his appointment as the Speaker after being left out in the Selangor Exco.

Dr Karim Mansor protest pig farm project: Let the photo do the talking

UMNO and Barisan Nasional lost power in the State of Selangor and Tanjung Sepat assemblyman Datuk Dr Karim Mansor make U-turn and objected to pig farming project which he himself was instrumental in initializing

When UMNO and Barisan Nasional lost power in the State of Selangor, Tanjung Sepat assemblyman Datuk Dr Karim Mansor and former Kampung Tumbuk village head Mohd Tarmudi objected strongly to the project. (This is unverified and from memory, but if I remembered correctly there were also reports of them taking part in demonstrations against the pig farm project, but you have to do your own research as I am unable to locate the source of those reports. Not sure if it was only Mohd Tarmudi who took part in the demonstration or both of them).

According to theStar Online, MCA (Malaysia Chinese Association) Traditional Agriculture and Agro Based Industry Bureau chairman, Datuk Dr Lee Chong Meng, had come out in the open to disclose that "Tanjung Sepat assemblyman Datuk Dr Karim Mansor and former Kampung Tumbuk village head Mohd Tarmudi were part of the committee that went on a trip to Germany to study the technology to be used in the project.

It is tough to make heads or tails of going on’s in Malaysia now after the March 8 "political tsunami" with all kinds of conflicting reports, but as the saying goes, a photo is worth a trillion words (own version), so let the photo do the talking:

Dr Karim Mansor, if I remember the reports correctly, was part of a group that went on a "study tour" to Germany and other countries. The new State Agriculture, Modernization, Natural Resources Management and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman, Yaakob Sapari Yaakob even disclose they have photographs countless other pictures of Dr Karim of him in Amsterdam and also at the Eiffel Tower in France that could be made public. Now just what does Eiffel Tower and Amsterdam has to do with pig farming? Perhaps Dr Karim Mansor is speculating that rearing pigs at higher altitude may lead to healthier pigs?

This is another piece of information of which I am unable to trace the source, and you will have to do your research, but there had been reports of Karim telling Utusan Malaysia on April 7 that the project would cause problems because the Malay-Muslim majority district of Kuala Langat will look like a pig-farming district.

In favor of project when in power and object to project when not in power. "Head" or "tail", I don't know. You tell me.
