Media Monitoring of Malaysia General Election 2008: Results

Editors of various media have been invited to a Press Conference on the final results of the CIJ-Charter 2000-WAMI Malaysia 2008 General Election Media monitoring. CIJ is Center of Independent Journalism and WAMI is Writers
Alliance for Media Independence. Charter 2000 I believe is an initiative of Aliran. They have joined force to monitor the coverage of various print media for political parties between 25th February to March 8, 2008 (March 8 is polling day). They will be announcing the results of their findings at the Press Conference.

I suppose that include untrained "editors" of alternative media like blogs, so I supposed "editors" of blogs are invited to the Press Conference too. Details of the Press Conference is as follows:

Date: 29th March 2008 (Saturday)

Time: 11.00 am

Venue: Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ),
27C Jalan Sarikei,
off Jalan Pahang,
53000 Kuala Lumpur
(behind Tawakal Hospital)

Further details can be obtained by calling Yip Wai Fong at 03-40230772

For map to CIJ (Center of Journalism) and directions as to how to get there, refer to CIJ's Deeparaya dinner and movie night

Ahmad Said to be Terengganu Menteri Besar (Chief Minister or MB)

According to theStar Online, the UMNO Supreme Council meeting has given its support for Ahmad Said, the Terengganu Kijal State Assemblyman, as the new Menteri Besar (MB or Chief Minister) of Terengganu, which hopefully now has helped avert a Constitutional crisis. The Terengganu Palace's choice for the post of Menteri Besar was Ahmad Said while initially, the other UMNO state assemblymen and Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was Idris Jusoh, the former Terengganu Menteri Besar who was reported as having incurred the wrath of the Terengganu Palace.

Hopefully, the swearing in of the Terengganu Menteri Besar will take place soon, followed by the appointment of the State Exco (Executive Committee) and the formation of Terengganu State Government.

Multilingual blog for positive changes

Now this blog aspire to blog for positive changes, but unfortunately while the author may be multilingual, he is only proficient in blogging in English, but cannot proficiently blog in other languages, including numerous languages that originated from India such as Tamil "spoken by Tamils in India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Mauritius and emigrant communities around the world (from Wikipedia, edited), Hindi (Hindi films are very popular in Malaysia), Arabic (many Muslims in Malaysia can read Arabic because of their Muslim religion), etc. To be able to reach such audiences, he would need the help of India translation, a translation service which can help with Hindi translation as well as other languages originating from India.

In the recent Malaysian General Election, many are of the opinion that the Indians, which traditionally vote for the ruling Barisan Nasional (National Coalition) voted against them instead and their votes could have contributed to the huge reversal suffered by the Barisan Nasional. It would be great if this blog also contain posts in Indian languages, or perhaps in another blog. On the other hand, if a new blog is to be created for Indian language or languages, it will have to start from "ground zero” that is with no PageRank and not yet indexed by search engines. The PageRank of this blog at time of publishing is 3, which is not bad, and can be found by search engines. I just checked the hits (visitors) counter, and this blogs have received hits (visits) by surfers searching for "dap malaysia" (DAP is acronym for Democratic Action Party, "tony pua service centre" (Tony Pua very recently successfully wrested the PJ Utara Parliamentary seat from incumbent Member of Parliament Chew Mei Fun. She was a very hard working Member of Parliament, but unfortunately, she was hardworking not in the right areas. She was very hardworking in taking care of things like drains which are actually the responsibilities of MBPJ (Majlis Bandaran Petaling Jaya in Bahasa Malaysia or Petaling Jaya City Hall in English). However, voters have matured to some extend and many must have felt that the more important role of a Member of Parliament is in the Parliament itself where crucial decisions, policies, amendments to the Constitutions, enactments of various Acts, etc., are made) and voted accordingly. Tony Pua Kiam Wee at a young age of 36, has now become one of the youngest Member of Parliament with many years of service to his country ahead of him.

It would thus be a great waste to start a new Indian language blog as it will take time to get indexed by search engines and thus "findable" by the search engines, plus lose the advantages or a fairly respectable PageRank. However, Indians only form 7.1% of Malaysia's population according to Wikipedia. Malays, which represent an estimated 50.4% of the Malaysian population and to be able to reach the Malays, it would also be great to have some blogs in Bahasa Malaysia (derived from the Malay language, in fact, can be considered identical, just calling something with a different name only. Now this blogger can blog in Malay, although with much less proficiency as compared to English. What this blogger cannot do is to blog in Arabic, a language which many Malays are proficient in. For this, he would need Arabic translation.

Yes, that would be great. To blog in Tamil, Hindi and Arabic. However, those translation services are not free and this blogger is not a millionaire. Further, he is neither a politician nor a Member of Parliament. He, unfortunately would not want to spend money on translation services, so looks like this blog will be predominately an English blog, and hopefully, a couple of posts in Bahasa Malaysia (Malaysia Language or Malay).

Story of a white woman and a black man: Racism

A good online friend sent me this message and at the bottom, it requested it be forwarded. The best way I know to reach as many people as possible is to copy-paste the whole message and publish it here as it can be considered "a fable with something to teach." But the message said it is a true story. Anyway, if anyone object to this post being published here, please contact me by clicking "click here to contact me" which at time of publishing is at the bottom of the left sidebar.

The following scene took place on a BA flight between Johannesburg and London . This is a true story.

A White woman, about 50 years old, was seated next to a Black man. Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air Hostess. "Madam, what is the matter," the Hostess asked. "You obviously do not see it then?" she responded. "You placed me next to a Black man. I do not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat." "Be calm please, the Hostess replied. "Almost all the seats on this flight are taken. I will go to see if another seat is available." The Hostess went away and came back a few minutes later. "Madam, just as I thought, there are no other available seats in Economy class. I spoke to the Captain and he informed me that there are also no seats in the Business class. All the same, we still have one seat in First class." Before the woman could reply, the Hostess continued: "It is unusual for our company to permit someone from Economy class to sit in First class. However, given the circumstances, the Captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone so disgusting." She turned to the Black man and said, "Therefore, Sir, if you would like to, please collect your hand luggage, a seat awaits you in First class." At that moment, the other passengers who were shocked by what they had just witnessed stood up and applauded. If you are against Racism, please send this message to all your friends. Please do not delete it without sending it to at least one person. "When you're down to nothing, God is up to something.

That is a real good Captain, and I wish there are more like him, anti-racialism, quick thinking, smart.

BTW I too had the honor of being invited to a special seat, to me, even better than First Class or Premier Class if ever there is one, by the Captain of an airplane I happened to be flying in. Over the public address system came this message: "Captain ***** ***** ***** welcome you ....."

Hey, that is the name of my classmate!!!! I requested an air hostess to pass this message to the Captain: "Please tell Captain **** **** **** that Mr. **** **** **** is on board. The air hostess came with a message from the Captain: "The Captain invites you to join him in the cockpit." And guess what? I got to sit in the jump seat (a folding seat between the Captain or pilot and his co-pilot). That is a real special seat for me which no money can buy. Plus there is free flow of drinks. What a flight!!!!!

Question for Zaid Ibrahim, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department

This post is in response to YB Lim Kit Siang's Good Team, Bad Captain post.

Abdullah's commitment to combat corruption is made hollow by his bringing Muhammad Taib into the cabinet. He was the former Mentri Besar of Selangor who was caught at an Australian airport with literally millions in cash on his person. He was acquitted from the criminal charge of not declaring the currency, but he has yet to explain how he secured the loot in the first place.

My response:

Wasn't this the former MB who No Speak English? What a No Speak English Malaysian in a global world where the current lingual currency is English? Where is Malaysia headed?

I applaud Zaid Ibrahim's appointment. He is one of the few independent minded and unafraid to challenge the leader, a rare quality especially among Malays. We are still feudalistic, blindly loyal to leaders regardless of circumstances. I also applaud him for his commitment to the rule of law. Also rare among Asian leaders and newly rich, Zaid is well known for his philanthropic works. Forbes magazine recently listed him as one of Asia's top philanthropists.

I too have great respect for Zaid Ibrahim for his willingness to voice out opinions that are not so pleasantly received by the more meek former BN MPs (Barisan Nasional's Member of Parliaments and UMNO (United Malay National Organization). However.....

How can one contact Zaid? Does he have a blog which allows comments? If I am not wrong, I heard him speak at Blog House. From memory (not too reliable) Zaid was an MP in the previous Parliament. If that is correct (readers, please help) I would like to ask Zaid what he did when the bill to amend the retirement age of the Chairman of the "Independent" Election Commission was hurriedly passed through the Parliament recently before the previous Parliament was dissolved.

And a former longkang MP, when asked how a BN MP can represent his or her Constituency when they are bound by the whip ALL THE TIME, and support anything from the BN and oppose anything from the opposition IRRESPECTIVE OF MERITS. Answer? Anything that gets tabled in the Parliament must go through a LOOOOONG process of consultations before they are tabled in the Parliament. I would want to ask Zaid if that was true. Now I understand many things like ISA act, law, can be passed with just a simple majority. It is only amendment to the Constitution which needs a two-third majority. Since important laws and acts can be passed, discarded or amended by a simple majority which the BN has, I would like to ask Zaid if bills, proposals, whatever (I have stepped foot into the Malaysian Parliament only once, so no expert) would still "go through a LOOOOOONG process of consultations" before they are tabled in the new Parliament.

I would also like to draw readers' attention to a previous post

Reject all Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament as long as the whip is applied ALL THE TIME.

Malaysian Government to apologise for victims of 1988 judicial crisis

"Zaid: Govt has to apologise to victims of 1988 judicial crisis"

That was what I read at theStar Online:

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/3/23/nation/20730100&sec=nation

That way by a rare respected UMNO member, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, who was not selected to stand for the 2008 Malaysia General Election, probably because of some remarks that didn’t go down well with UMNO. Anyway, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has now been appointed as a Senator, then the de facto Law Minister, replacing the "stupid, stupid, stupid" Nazri, former de facto Law Minister(that word stupid wasn't meant to be used to describe Nazri, but is repeating what he uttered in the Parliament).

In the 1988 Judicial crisis, then Lord President (equivalent of current Chief Justice) Tun Mohd Salleh Abbas, was sacked, in the opinion of many, unjustly. I had the good fortune to ask Tun Mohd Salleh Abbas regarding the provision in Malaysia Constitution for free speech, free expression and free assembly plus the clause that said any laws or regulations that go against the spirit of the Constitution is invalid. I wanted to know about the validity of the requirement to get a police permit for peaceful assembly without arms.

I had to express my sympathy over what happened to him as during our conversation, if I remembered correctly, he couldn't even afford Internet access (this is from a 59 year old brain which may or may not be reliable).

I am of the opinion that the Federal Government should not only apologize, but also to compensate those who were wronged.

Terengganu UMNO assemblymen plan boycott of swearing-in ceremony of Menteri Besar (Chief Minister)

At 5.45pm, state Umno liaison secretary Datuk Rosol Wahid said the assemblymen who attended the meeting would boycott the swearing-in ceremony if Idris, who is also Terengganu Umno liaison chairman, was not appointed the Mentri Besar.

Source:
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/3/23/nation/20730032&sec=nation

This planned boycott was, according to the above report, initiated at Idris’ official residence here for a meeting at 5pm. Idris was the former Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) and the one nominated by the Prime Minister whom some Constitution lawyers said (from memory) has no right in interfering with the perogative of the Sultan to appoint the Chief Minister. Idris is also supported by the majority of the Terengganu state assemblymen.

Now YB Lim Kit Siang got lots and lots of brick-bracks for sugggesting a boycott of the Perak's Chief Minister, but has since apologized. Let us see if those seeking a boycott of Terengganu's Chief Minister swearing-in ceremony are going to get any of the same treatment. Plus I think there are calls for those who boycott swearing-in ceremonies should resign and seek re-election. Let us hope that happens.

Worst floods hit Seberang Prai, new Deputy CM on site very fast but MPSP's Chief Engineer and YDP were hard to contact

Read on this blog:
http://cowboycaleb.liquidblade.com/index.php/archives/2008/03/22/msian-mp-blogger-reporting-directly-from-the-scene-now/

That Malaysian blogger MP (Member of Parliament, incidentally from the Penang state ruling DAP or Democratic Action Party) reporting directly from the scene of the worst floods in a Sebarang Prai Industrial Zone in recent years. According to that blog, the flood occurred because eight of the twelve pumps were not functioning due to lack of maintenance by the Penang City Council. While the new Penang Deputy Chief Minister Dr. P. Ramasamy (the one who defeated the former Penang Chief Minister Koh Su Khun if I remember correctly) was there by 8.30pm, he could not locate the MPSP's (if I am not wrong, MPSP is short for Majlis Perbandaran Sebarang Prai or the Sebarang Prai Municipal Council) Chief Engineer could not be contacted until 10pm and the YDP (I don't know what stand for, but probably someone senior in the MPSP) could not be contacted until 12.30pm.

The blogger opined that these two will have lots of explaining to do. Let's see what will be reported in the Malaysia mainstream media and what will be reported online tomorrow, especially the subscription based independent online newspaper, Malaysiakini which have real journalists reporting real news.

There may be errors above, and I will be very glad if anyone can point them out to me so that corrections can be made.

Open Letter to the Prime Minister of Malaysia

Got this via an email forward and requested to forward to all Malaysians. I figured the most efficient way is to publish it as an open letter to our Prime Minister, maybe also the Chairman of the "Independent" Election Commission:

TO:-

Dato' Seri Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi
Pejabat Perdana Menteri,
Blok Utama, Bangunan Perdana Putra,
Pusat Pentadbiran Kerajaan Persekutuan,
62502 PUTRAJAYA
No.Fax: 03-88884333

C:C :-

TAN SRI DATO' SERI HJ. AB. RASHID BIN AB. RAHMAN

Chairman Election Commission of Malaysia

Aras 4 & 5, Block C7, Kompleks C,
Pusat Pentadbiran Kerajaan Persekutuan
62690 PUTRAJAYA.
Tel : (603)-8885 6500
Fax : (603)-8888 9117

And to all beloved Malaysians,

March 11 -08

Dear Prime Minister,

First of all, I would like to welcome you in to the new era of Malaysians politics. The old money, racial and UMNO Putera politics is no more valid in this country where people choose freedom of rights and a democratic process. Many reasons have caused the big waves of change in your government. Some of the points are as below. I hope this will help you to restructure your government.

1. The peaceful assemblies being disrupted by the police for your own political gain.
2. The use of ISA on innocent Malaysians.
3. The on going corruption.
4. The failure of the judiciary system.
5. The involvement of government officials in the murder of Altantunya.
6. The federal constitution law is violated especially in the freedom of religion under article 11, example in the case of Subashini, Lina Joy, Holy Scriptures and Bibles banned from entering the country, the movie Passion of Christ being banned in Malaysia and the demolishment of holy temples.
7. The one sight media coverage.
8. Discrimination against the Indians.
9. Most of the government project are given to the UMNO Putera`s and fly.
10. The indecent and racial remarks made by your Ministers.
11. The keris issue by Hishamudin
12. No transparency in the accounts administration.
13. And of course much of the noise made by the empty vessel, Khairy.

Documents missing: Should we demand for a Royal Commission to investigate?

The things that many feared had happened if theStar online is to be believed:

"All documents from the offices of the Mentri Besar and executive councillors in Kedah have gone missing."

Source:
http://thestar.com.my/election/story.asp?file=/2008/3/17/election2008/20668461&sec=election2008

Now if proven true in both Kedah as well as other States which the non-Barisan parties have wrested control, should concerned Malaysians, NGOs (non-Government orgarnizations), private citizen intiatives demand for a Royal Commission to force suspects to testify under oath and get to the bottom of the situation?

Hoping for feedback.

What did I do? Did I help set up an Islamic state for Malaysia?

Note: What I consider the most important part of this post is at the bottom of the post.

The Malaysia twelve General Election 2008 had been an extraordinary election. For decades, the Barisan Nasional (National Coalition) had ruled the country with a very comfortable two-third majority via divide and rule racial politics, gerrymandering, unfair electoral process including what many considered a non-independent (biased) Election Commission, phantom voters, postal voters which are always 90 over percent in favor of the Barisan Nasional, throttling of development funds to opposition states and Constituencies, etc., destruction of the three pillars of democracy (Executive, Parliament and Judiciary), what in other democracies would consider as bribery by using public funds and facilities for the election process, use of money, unfair detention without trial using the hated ISA (Internal Security Act), etc. They were arrogant, deaf and dumb to the public demands for changes. They believed their own propaganda and got complacent. The voters badly wanted change, and near the end of the campaign period, they finally sensed it and got desperate. The supposedly independent Election Commission reversed their decision on the use of indelible ink to help cut down fraud, many people believed because of directives. But it was too late. The people were fed-up and wanted change. For the first time, nearly all the voters did not vote along racial lines. The Barisan Nasional (BN) only managed to win a simple majority but lost 5 states to non-BN parties which form a loose partnership.

Books on Malaysian Politics

However, today I read a newspaper report "PAS certain it can set up Islamic federal government soon". We now only need over 30 parliamentary seats to seize control.” Its vice-president Datuk Husam Musa was reported to have said at a thanksgiving rally that they now only need over 30 parliamentary seats to seize control.

Source:
http://thestar.com.my/election/story.asp?file=/2008/3/16/election2008/20663036&sec=Election2008

PAS is the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (Parti Islam Se-Malaysia in Malay or Bahasa Malaysia), who had the objective of turning Malaysia into an Islamic state. When Malaya, then Malaysia, was formed, it was never the intention of its founder that Malaysia should become an Islamic state. Now this might be the mainstream media trying to strike fear in the non-Muslim. True of not, I do not know, but it causes me to be anxious.

In the 2004 election, PAS was very strident in its campaigning to set up an Islamic state and implement HUDUD and as a result did not do well. This round, PAS gave more moderate statements and did manage win over a significant non-Muslim votes. What I am afraid of is that this is only temporary, and that things may change may change as they become stronger in the future. They have the right to amend the Constitution to make Malaysia an Islamic state over the objections of the non-Muslims if they manage to gain control of the Parliament with a two-third majority, which may be possible with the cooperation of other parties.

Now Saidul's Malay Women in Malaysia published a post 2008 Malaysian Election: What have we done!? which was in roughly the same vein as this post, but against YB Lim Kit Siang's objections over the appointment of a PAS assemblyman as the Mentri Besar (Chief Minister) of Perak. Saidul published various accusations, among which are (from memory as it had been edited out after my comment which was not approved) DAP is anti-Malay and Islamophobic. I requested for proof and mentioned about Lim Guan Eng ending up in jail after trying to help a Malay girl in Malacca who was abandoned by UMNO, and Ronnie Liu getting his skull cracked by the FRU (Federal Reserve Units) while trying to help some Malay squatters. I requested a definition of Islamophobic so I can judge for myself if DAP plus myself, both of which do not want an Islamic state imposed upon us over our objections, would be considered as Islamophobic. In response, Saidul deleted the above accusations but there were other accusations still in the post. Among them are "DAP has always been accused of playing with sensitive issues regarding Bumi Rights and Islam". He commented that they have a third eye which I do not have.

Now with this development, I just wonder if I can be justified in accusing PAS as extremist and religious zealots, just as he accused DAP of many things. I welcome open discussions without acrimony and am going to comment in this post 2008 Malaysian Election: What have we done!?, leave a comment with a link to this post and invite him to comment.

Most of my comments in that post were not approved, but it is unlikely that his comments, if he chooses to do so, will not be approved as long as it is not seditious, etc. (To make it clear, what I am saying is Saidul and his Muslim NGO friends choose to comment, all comments, as long as they do not cause problems for me, them and Malaysia, will be approved irrespective of my own views. However, I reserve my rights to respond to whatever comments they may, if that happen, leave in my blog)

Post-Elections Analysis Open Dialoge

Malaysia 12th General Election 2008 is a remarkable election and may signal a new dawn or worst problems for Malaysia, depending on how the politicians and citizens react to the new and hard to predict situation in Malaysia after the BN (Barisan Nasional) was trounced. They had only slightly above 50% of the votes, but I suspect strongly minus the postal votes, they would have obtained less than 50%.

It is therefore important to review and educate all regarding important issues and hold the Barisan Nasion as well as the Barasan Harapan Rakyat accountable for their words, manifestos and promises. Now for the Barasan Harapan Rakyat, doing that will be much more difficult as unfortunately they are not the country's government, hopefully a government-in-waiting, so when you watch over them, you must bear in mind the limitations they will have to face.

I know this is late notice, but if you happen to catch this in time, I hope you will take the trouble to attend this "Post-Elections Analysis Open Dialogue" organized by "The Centre for Public Policy Studies", an independent and non-partisan public policy institute that aims at fostering open-minded dialogue, enlightened leadership and better governance.

Rebuttal: Abdullah Badawi was fair

From

http://themalaysianinsider.com/mni/abdullah-the-other-story.html

Abdullah: The other story:
Even at his lowest point, he played fair

"Finally, to all intents and purposes the elections were conducted in a fair and clean manner. The phantom voters that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim"

Hey where do you get your news from? I just participated in a roundtable on Independent candidates, and in preparation, I did some research and had 5 pages detailing the postal votes fraud (to show the Independents the unlevel field that non-Barisan parties including Independents have to play in and why they should cooperate"

Hey themalaysianinsider.com, where do you get your news from? Are you also part of the hated main stream media? Don't you do some research before you publish your story?

Yes, in some ways Abdullah Badawi was fair, but only in a very tiny way. I took part in a roundtable on "Independent Candidates" and did my homework. I had 5 pages of reports on postal votes fraud. This was to show the highly unlevel field the non-BN parties including the Independents had to "play" in, and to try to persuade to work with other non-BN parties in the next general election to cooperate to avoid splitting precious votes. Maybe I will summarize in another post on this postal vote fraud in another post.

I myself have stories to tell after acting as polling and counting agent for the 12th General Election, but want to get the legal implication of the "Akta Kesalahan Pilihan Raya 1954" Borang A (Borang Sumpah Kerahsiaan: we had to sign in order to be allowed into the polling and counting centers.

Fair? Dream on. Hopefully next election if BERSIH and other initiatives succeed to help clean up the hugely biased Malaysian election process.

Cracks in Barisan Harapan Rakyat in Perak

There is an uneasy and fragile cooperation between DAP, PKR and PAS (like it call this cooperation, not coalition the "Barisan Harapan Rakyat" for lake of a suitable name to describe that) which managed to maul the very unpopular BN (Barisan Nasional)
Barisan Harapan Rakyat. This the "Barisan Harapan Rakyat" must defend against the Barisan Nasional at all costs and not let this fragile arrangement be derailed and give the Barisan Nasional a comeback the next General Election.

So far, we have been reading some very moderate comments from the elected PAS candidates. Now this fragile cooperation in Perak seem to be in danger and may give the BN a chance to counter attack. The statement from YB Lim Kit Siang to ask all the DAP assembly to boycott the swearing in of the PAS Mentri Besar of Perak carries with it great risk. Different people will have different opinions. My opinion is to request YB Lim Kit Siang to give the fragile cooperation a chance to work. Let us monitor the actions of the Perak PAS Mentri Besar and if he did not take the sensitivities of the non-Muslim into consideration, DAP will still have that option to decide what to do about it.

But give PAS a chance first, and make sure the DAP have sufficient members in the Exco to provide for check and balance, and I am hopeful that things may work out.

Let us not jeopardise this hard earned victory and squander it through rash action. PAS has endorsed what I believe is that Peoples' Declaration and I believe there would be clauses which obliged PAS not to go overboard. If they do, then work out a Plan B and be prepared. Jeopardise the fragile cooperation and risk alienating the Malay-Muslims is something too early to do.

Please, YB Lim Kit Siang, allow the Perak ADUN attend the swearing in ceremony of the Perak Mentri Besar, then stay alert.

Reject all Barisan MPs as long as the whip is imposed all the time

I have been getting news online about how former Ministers who lost in the election is not going to accept invitation to become a Senator and will concentrate on rebuilding the party. That include Samy Vellu which used to rule MIC with an iron fist and kicked out many MIC dissidents. Now he is going to invite those he kicked out to rejoin MIC to help rebuild the party.

Source:
http://thestar.com.my/election/story.asp?file=/2008/3/12/election2008/20080312135721&sec=election2008

I would advice all concerned Malaysians to reject all Barisan Nasional candidates in the next General Election as long as the whip is enforced ALL THE TIME IRRESPECTIVE OF MERITS of whatever had been tabled or proposed (I am not too familiar with procedures of Parliament except what is the meaning of the whip - Member of Parliaments of a party or coalition must vote for anything, rubbish or gold, irrespective of merits, from the Barisan Nasional and against anything, also irrespective of merits anything from the non-Barisan Nasional parties. This means their hands are tied at the Parliament, where all the important decisions are made, and they cannot vote according to conscience.

We should reject BN camdidates irrespective of character or reputation. This is only my opinion which you may agree or not. Feel free to comment on what your views are on this matter.

Malaysia like United States?

Hi all,

Got this via an email forward and don't know if it is copyright. But if this had been circulating, then likely it is public domain. In any case, if you happens to be the copyright owner, all you need to do is to click on the "Click here to contact me" and let me know what you want done - delete, apologize, link your website, but please don't demand compensation because I am too poor to pay you compensation. Even if you spend money, take me to court and win, I will be in trouble but I don't think you will get much money as I don't have much of that important stuff to distribute. Better you just give me the above choice. If you are the one who forwarded me this message, and you have no objection to me copy-pasting it or you know who the copyright owner is, leave a comment or email me.

NOTE: Politicians were mentioned in that "forward" and just want you to know I met a long time schoolmate and wanted to introduce him to Tony Pua Kiam Wee, winner of the recently concluded amazing election of my Constituent and a newbie to politics, he declined. I had a chat with him over the table in the coffee shop and just could not persuade him that not every human on earth are the same. Different people have different values, and our country get blessed when we have honest politicians and God help us if our country get saddled with the wrong values. BTW I have an autographed of an election poster with his photo on it and very proud to be in possession of such a poster.

WOW THIS IS SOME AMAZING STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is too true to be funny. The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money. A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans It's amazing what you can learn w ith some simple division

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number, what does it mean?

A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528.

B. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.Washington , D.C .. HELLO!!! ... Are all your calculators broken??

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened? Can you spell 'politicians!'

And I still have to 'press 1' for English.

I hope this goes around THE USA at least 100 times

What the heck happened?????

OKT (Ong Kah Ting) just can't get message. We want Malaysians' rights, not Chineses' or Indians' or Malays' rights!!!!!!

Broke boycott because of election results. In theStar N6 Nation, headline or bye-line or whatever line screamed "Pledge on Chinese rights."

Somehow, some people just cannot get the message. I don't want Chinese' rights. I don't know about Indians, but I know some Indians too are not fighting for Indians' rights. I definitely know there are Malays who are not fighting for Malays' rights. We are fighting for Malaysians' rights. Bangsa Malaysia. No to racial politics!!! We have enough!!!! We have had enough of racial politics which polarize our country and caused disunity!!!!

Open letter to DAP, PKR, PAS plus.......

First congratulations to the victors in this extraordinary 2008 Malaysia General Election.

To DAP plus PKR and to PKR plus PAS plus honest cooperation between the three (not coalition of DAP, PKR and PAS as the main stream media would like to believe), this is an open letter to appeal to you to first pass the FOI (Freedom of Information) Act, then followed by whatever you know to be for the good of Malaysia. Perhaps you already have plans to do that, so I do not want to try to claim credit if ever that FOI act plus....... ever get implemented. This is not the intention of this post. This is just perhaps just an encouragement to govern those states that you control in ways which a state should be governed. Then we can look forward to a Malaysian government that governs Malaysia as it should be government. Not through threats, through intimidation, through unjust imprisonments, through withholding of essential information from the public, through misleading the public, and I don't know what else. Perhaps you can help me add to the list by leaving a comment. Show them you can govern a country honestly, in the best interest of all Malaysians irrespective or race, religion, party, clan, whatever. Then you can be sure we will do our very best to keep you where you have now been placed in control over.

You probably know that better than I do, me being a non-politician and would like to believe, a non-partisan Malaysian owing no fixed loyalty to any particular party. My loyalty goes to those I see doing what is best for Malaysia and can change if things don't look good. I like what Haris Ibrahim declared in the DAP's SS2 Petaling Jaya ceramah (transcript: click BACK button to get back to this page): "If we can put them in, we can get them out."

We look forward to actions from you. May our hopes rest with you.

Petition for a Royal Commission on Electoral Reform (RCER) in Malaysia

I plea (beg) all concerned Malaysians to sign this online petition:

Petition for a Royal Commission on Electoral Reform (RCER) in Malaysia. Here is one of the many reasons why you should sign the petition:

I recently attended polling and counting agent training course (as a refresher) and heard how election can be manipulated. Included was votes can be bought to tip the scale in favor of a candidate with the money and willingness to buy votes.

The process start with giving a false pre-marked ballot paper to a voter with instruction to smuggle out his blank ballot paper and substitude it with the false pre-marked ballot paper and put that into the ballot paper instead. Then the process below will start:

What can happen is a voter can enter a polling stream (room) with pre-marked ballots (one for the Parliament, one for the State), at the shielded booth to mark the ballot papers, put the real, still unmarked ballot papers in his or her pocket, walk to the ballot boxes, drops in the marked ballot boxes, walk out of the voting center, mark the real ballot papers, hand them over to a voter (paided or volunteer) who then next walk into his polling stream (room) repeat the same process, walk out of the polling center, hand over the unmarked ballot papers to the manipulator, get paid, and the process goes on until one is caught. Then the cycle will have to be started again.

We were told that previously, this was more difficult because at the place where the voter marks the ballot papers, his or her backside will be facing the polling agents and it was difficult to pocket the ballot papers without being seen. See diagram below:

Polling stream (room), previous arrangement

A box to show the ballot boxes in the center had been unfortunately left out from the diagram. You have to use your imagination and add that in.

However, now the arrangement had been changed and the backside of the voter when marking the ballot papers will no longer be facing the polling agents and thus not visible. See diagram below:

Polling stream (room), arrangement now

A box to show the ballot boxes in the center had been unfortunately left out from the diagram. You have to use your imagination and add that in.

I was also told about a man who told his colleague he must return to Johore to vote. The reason he gave was his brother had already committed his vote to such an arrangement. With this current arrangement of the polling stream (room), such practices are difficult to spot.

Further, there is backtracking by the Election Commission on the use of indelible ink on fingernails of voters who had already voted. It then becomes very difficult for a person to vote more than once. Now that this indelible ink will no longer be used, I understand it is easy for phantom voters to operate. How I am not sure. I will try to find out, and if I have information, I will update this blog.

Monitor Malaysia Election free from Malaysiakini

Malayiskini is an independent, subscription based online newspapers with qualified journalists and editors giving real, unbiased news, not the kind of rubbish you get in the tightly controlled mass media newspapers (MSM). However, I believe Steve Gan, founder of Malaysiakini, is more concerned in getting out the real news rather than the rubbish that the public are fed with by the (MSM). Malaysiakini now has opened their news website for surfers to read free for one week. To get updated on the latest news on the 2008 Malaysia General Election, go to Malaysiakini for real Malaysian news.

The latest news is the the so called "independent" Election Commission has made an about turn and made the decision not to use indelible ink to mark the fingernails of voters to prevent phantom voter from voting more than once. Concerned Malaysians, particularly BERSIH, had been demanding the the Election Commission uses indelible ink, and originally they agreed to do so. In fact, I vaguely remembered reading a report that millions of ringgits (Malaysian money) had been spend to import the indelible ink from India. Now all those will be wasted, another addition to the series of public funds going down the drain.

More later.

Who are these supporters of Barisan Nasional?

From theStar online Tuesday, March 04, 2008:
http://thestar.com.my/metro/central/

"EPL stars like John Terry of Chelsea and Ryan Giggs of Manchester United have made their preference on which party they are vouching for in the 12th general election."

Seemed that was on a large billboard Celcom billboard near the Ampang LRT station. Were they paid to hold up those little "dacing" flags? I don't know and don't wish to voice out my thoughts. All I know that golf superstars like Tiger is paid very handsomely for endorsing some golfing equipment brands and that is common practice, I also know that billboard advertising is very very expensive. Who paid for them? Is it added to the maximum campaign funds?

Now at a nomination center, the BN was allotted a strategic place next to the main road, easily accessible. The DAP was allotted an isolated playground away from the main road which was only accessible via hard to find paths because the most convenient access was blocked. I also heard that quite a numbers of those waving the BN flags were foreigners who were paid. The announcer said he only heard it, he does not know if it is true or not. What I know is that one who helped in the campaigning of an ADUN in the 2004 election was feasted with a big dinner at which envelopes containing money were handed out. True or not I do not know as I was not at the dinner. But this I know. I heard it from that person who was at the dinner with my own two ears.

Koh Tsu Koon ignored Indians

Koh fails to stop - just looks and goes
Athi Veeranggan | Mar 3, 08 11:20am [extract]

http://www.malaysia kini.com/ news/79042

(edited to avoid duplicate content)

A group of residents numbering more than 200 carrying banners and placards and many chanting anti-BN slogans, were protesting against the BN (Barisan Nasional) for failure to expand a Valdor Tamil school despite appealing for 20 years.

While they were staging their protest, Koh Tsu Koon passed the area in his (presumably expensive)four-wheel drive about 11am.

They shouted for him to stop and hear them out, but Koh - contesting his
first parliamentary seat in Batu Kawan which covers the Valdor area - ignored the calls and drove on by.

Remeber how insensitive UMNO held their General Assembly during Deepavali? Remember how Abdullah Badawi dissolved the Parliament during the Chinese New Year celebrations. Remember how the Prime Minister said he is Prime Minister for all Malaysians. Let us remember. Let us not depend on cheap talk. Let us examine actions.

Remember all these when you cast your votes on Saturday 8 March 2008.

Sleeping Prime Minister. Let the picture do the talking

It was reported in the International Herald Tribune, March 3, 2008:

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/03/03/asia/AS-POL-Malaysia-Elections.php

that "Malaysia's prime minister rejected critics' claims Monday that he deserved to lose in this week's general election for being a poor leader who sleeps on the job."

Now let us let the photos do the talking:

Abdullah Badawi sleeping 1

Abdullah Badawi sleeping 2

Abdullah Badawi sleeping 3

I take no delight in this post as I had put much hope in Abdullah Badawi when I voted for Barisan Nasional in 2004. There were so many promises. After the dictatorial rule of Dr. Mahathir, I grabbed at the chance for a change for the better. Did we get it? After so many years what was achieved? Port Klang Free Zone fiasco where billions of public money went down the drain, the Port Klang State Assemblyman Zakaria Md Deros palace built on land meant for the poor without planning approval which according to planning law is supposed to be torn down but was only slapped with a paltry fine, dropped but not totally dropped out from the election because his daughter-in-law is now contesting on his behalf, the promised IPCMC which was then supposed to be replaced by a "post box" SCC (Special Complaints Commission) whose function, according to Edmund Bon, Malaysia Bar Council Human Rights Committee Chairman, is to accept complaints, study them, and then forward them to whatever agencies they see fit. The dragging of feet over the demand for a Royal Commission to study the VK Lingam tape which should also cover the state of the Judiciary, but delayed by a useless Panel of Inquiry to study its authenticity, and only after much public outrage, a Royal Commission with very limited terms of reference was set up. Even then, the key witness was allowed to treat the Royal Commission with contempt with answer like "he looks like me, he sounds like me...."

Brains need to be unclogged, not drains

Got this from a comment in Haris Ibrahim's blog:

"Malaysians have been long brainwashed, what needs to be unclogged is brains, not drains."

Please tell that to our jaga longkang BN (Barisan Nasional) MPs (Members of Parliament).

Keep this in mind when you cast your vote this Saturday, 8 March 2008

Barisan Harapan Rakyat (Coalition of Hope for Malaysians)

Vote DAP RocketVote PKR not Barisan
Vote DAP (Rocket)Vote PKR

Just Change it

Barisan has abused the two-third majority and amended the Constitution 50 times, many amendments containing multiple amendments, adding up to a total of 700 amendments!!!!! According to Haris Ibrahim at a SS2 Petaling Jaya ceramah (click BACK button to get back to this page), "A Member of Parliament upon joining the Parliament, take an oath to defend, uphold and preservere the Constitution. However, every BN (Barisan Nasional) MP has cooperated in dismantling our document systematically. In the process, taken away our rights. In the process, taking away our Constitutional Institutions" (edited).

He also gave a battle cry "Barisan Harapan Rakyat (Coalition of Hope for Malaysians)". Let us hope that this can become a reality and stop the rot in Malaysia. In the meantime, the two-third majority MUST BE TAKEN AWAY from the BN (Barisan Nasional). Of course, we hope that this "Barisan Harapan Rakyat (Coalition of Hope for Malaysians)" can form the next government after polling day.
